Jenny Sturgeon is a singer songwriter from Aberdeenshire, now living in Shetland. She performs in a trio with Jonny Hardie (guitar, vocals) and Charlie McKerron (fiddle).
In 2015, she released an ep ‘From Source to Sea,’ followed by her first album, “From the Skein’ in 2016. Jenny has just released “St Kilda Songs & Tunes”, an ep of original material written by Jenny as part of a project with the National Trust.
Her passion for music lies in her interest in traditional folk song, combined with the enjoyment of creating fresh new compositions. The inspiration for her lyrics comes from folklore, historical events and personal experience, and as a biologist her enthusiasm for nature creeps in to all her work.
‘From the Skein’ was album of the week on BBC Radio nan Gaidheal and album of the month on Folk Radio UK and Mike Harding said of the album:
‘A superb album – I love every track!’
Folkwords had this to say: ‘Jenny Sturgeon releases her debut album ‘From The Skein’ … and it is stunning.’
Jenny plays in a trio with Jonny Hardie (Old Blind Dogs, Clype) on guitar and fiddle and Charlie McKerron(Capercaillie) on fiddle.
