Borders writer and musician Jules Horne presents a wild spoken word performance of modern Border ballads and nano novels in Scots and English, accompanied by stand-up cello and loop station. Featuring the Borders Heritage Festival Commission Three Border Songs, and a touch of Borders Gothic.
“I write plays for stage and radio as well as fiction with a Scottish Gothic flavour. I’m from the Scottish Borders, the home of the Border ballads, so it’s not surprising I love stories with larger-than-life characters in small, strange worlds. (Angela Carter and Mervyn Peake are huge favourites). Very special times in my writing journey so far include 8 plays on BBC radio and a trilogy of plays for Nutshell Theatre: ALLOTMENT, THREAD (both winning Fringe First Awards at Edinburgh Festival Fringe) and HANDFAST. I teach part-time on the Open University Creative Writing MA, and co-wrote the MA Script strand.”
